What is the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International?

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (DKG) is a global honorary society of over 150,000 key women educators in 17 countries. The Society is a beacon of inspiration, dedicated to promoting the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. Membership in the Society is based upon success in teaching, leadership in professional organizations, and an unselfish spirit. Under the international umbrella of DKG are state organizations, and within them, local chapters.

Texas State Organization & ​Epsilon Upsilon Chapter

The Texas State Organization is a part of DKG, which is dedicated to promoting the professional and personal growth of women educators and, most importantly, excellence in education. Founded in 1929 in Austin, Texas, it was the first state organization within DKG. The Texas organization, formerly known as Alpha State, has a large membership with over 9,000 members across approximately 270 chapters, all working towards the common goal of inspiring excellence in education.

Epsilon Upsilon, a chapter in the Texas State Organization of DKG, serves the western Hidalgo & Starr counties in the Rio Grande Valley. It is composed of diverse educators who have been welcomed to membership by their peers.
Through this organization, women educators, instructors, trainers, and coaches are offered a lifelong association with others in the profession who share a pursuit of common interests, goals, and ideas as they strive for professional growth and to become leaders in advancing education. ​

Meet Our First Collegiate Member, Camilla!
Camilla is a 2025 graduate of Jimmy Carter Early College High School and is studying elementary education at the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley. She aspires to become an elementary educator and enjoys babysitting her nieces and nephews. In her free time, she loves spending time with her cat, Candy, and her dogs.
Meet Our New Addition,
Sylvia!
Sylvia is thrilled to join Epsilon Upsilon. A retired Pearson Sales Representative, she dedicated years to providing instructional software to Texas schools and now tutors elementary students in Edinburg CISD. During her nine years with DKG, she has held various leadership roles, including Area 5 Coordinator and Chapter President, and is currently on the State Yearbook Committee. She looks forward to contributing her experience, collaborating with members, and embracing the opportunities Epsilon Upsilon provides.
Meet Our Newest Member, Sarah!
Sarah is originally from West Virginia but has spent most of her life in Texas. She has been an educator for 27 years and holds a Master's degree in Bilingual Education. Currently, she works as an instructional coach in the La Joya Independent School District (ISD). Sarah is particularly excited about building friendships and connecting with other educators in the valley.

2026 Chapter Achievement Award Recipients!

​Our Delta Kappa Gamma International Society chapter, Epsilon Upsilon, strives to recognize members who have given outstanding service to our chapter. This recognition is presented as a Chapter Achievement Award. This year, we are honored to recognize two exceptional members.
Congratulations to Anabel Guerra!
Anabel Guerra now carries the title of Past President, but she has been so much more to our chapter. She was inducted into our chapter in February 2016. As a still-working educator, Anabel has faithfully served Epsilon Upsilon by attending international and state conventions and by participating in the Texas Leadership Seminar. Her energy, dedication, and professional ideals made her an outstanding president during this past biennium. We are so pleased to name Anabel as a recipient of the Epsilon.

Congratulations, Jenny Hudsonpillar!
Jenny Hudsonpillar has been a member of our chapter for 20 years and has been using her talents to support Epsilon Upsilon since her induction. She has kept us on the straight and narrow year after year, contributed and donated more than most of us will ever know, and has always been present with a smile and positive energy.
As our next biennium begins, she has decided to step down and relinquish her role as our trusted treasurer. Jenny Hudsonpillar, your work and dedication will truly be missed. Still, we are excited to continue enjoying your presence as a member — especially now that someone else will be holding the checkbook when we ask for funds!
